Smoothies for Summer
One thing I love about summer is the ease of making breakfast
Breakfast in our home on a hot summer day usually involves a smoothie – made to order. The kids love them and they are a super nutritious treat too! I always make sure our freezer is stocked with frozen fruits – bananas, strawberries, peaches, mangos and berries… I get the big yogurt tubs of vanilla yogurt and am sure to have apple or orange juice on hand too.
Throw some frozen fruit… some yogurt… and juice in the blender and blend away! The frozen fruit acts as ice and makes the smoothie nice and thick!
Forget spending $4 at Jamba Juice – make your own smoothies this summer!
Enjoy!

Craft: Learn to make Butterflies with your kids
Balancing Butterfly
What You Need
- Empty Cereal Box
- 2 small coins (pennies or dimes)
- Toothpick
- Glue
- Markers
How To Make It
Draw the shape of a butterfly on a piece of card (make sure that the wing tips at the nose end are big enough to mount the coins on and that coins position will be well below the nose. This is what lowers the center of gravity and enables the butterfly to balance. Also make sure the picture is symmetrical so that it has equal balance).
Once your shape is drawn place the card on top of another piece and cut out the shape so that you have two identical butterfly shapes.
Glue or tape the coins in place.
Glue or tape the tooth pick on so that the point is just protruding from the nose of the butterfly.
Glue the other butterfly shaped card on top to hide the balancing coins and cocktail stick.
Color and decorate you butterfly.

Activities Calendar For Kids
Young children have small appetites and they need adequate nutrients for healthy growth and development. So nutrient rich snacks through the day, will provide all the necessary nutrients their bodies need, ensuring proper development.
Try these snack ideas as a healthy freezer snacks as an alternative to the common snacks that provide little or no nutritional value:
- frozen bananas: peel a banana anad put it on a stick – then let it freeze in the freezer for a couple hours. Better yet, let your kids prepare them!
- frozen grapes: I’ve always used green grapes – rinse them well and pull off the stems… then, put them in a baggy in the freezer until frozen.
- Frozen Yogurt: Blend yogurt and fruit in a blender to make a smoothie – pour into fun shaped ice-cube trays with toothpicks sticking out… perfect for a warm afternoon or an ice-cream replacement.
Snacks aren’t the only tough thing to get creative about with young children… sometimes just daily activities need a little creative boost. Same snack… Just looks different
The other day I sliced up a banana and served it to my youngest son. He thought it was so funny and gobbled it right up… see, usually I hand him a whole banana for him to munch on. He appreciated having it offered to him in a different way.
Keep fruit snacks from getting boring by trying a few of these ideas:
Fruit on a stick: Cut up different fruits such as bananas, apples, grapes, mango, kiwis and others… and slide them onto a skewer or craft stick for a yummy treat.
Use a Muffin Pan: Kids love to pick and choose for themselves – provide a bunch of different cut-up fruits and cheerios in a muffin pan for them to choose from.
Quick Banana Ice
simply take a few bananas and mash them in a bowl. Cover and place in the freezer for about 30 minutes. Remove from freezer, fluff up with fork for a healthy, ice cream like treat.
Enjoy!

Eating healthy for our kids
I just have to share with you a great web-site I found!
Our family has been trying to live a healthy lifestyle by exercising more and eating healthy. However, sometimes it was hard for me to get organized enough to plan a healthy meal for every day of the week. When I didn’t plan we would usually end up ordering pizza or chomping down burgers at the fast food joint down the road.
I recently came across an awesome tool called Healthy Menu Mailer. Each week they e-mail me a menu that includes dinner recipe’s for every day of the week along with a categorized grocery shopping list. All I have to do is print out my menu and grocery list, shop one day, and I’m set with everything I need to create healthy meals all week long. Each recipe even includes the nutritional information. As a member I am also able to access the members area of the site that includes additional recipes and a members only forum. I just love this service, and I thought you might enjoy it as well.
