It is suppose to almost hit 60 degrees today in the Pacific NW… it’s beautiful! I know it is just a tease, but we are going to pretend for the day that spring is here!
We are opening all the windows to get that crisp clean air smell filling the rooms… we are working out front in the yard to get it ready for the soon to come spring flowers… and we promised the kids a hike at a local nature park.
So… speaking of spring cleaning… I thought I would share with you a couple of my favorite books on the topic of home organization. I’ll be honest with you – I am a good organizer… but, I am a terrible housekeeper. I desire to have a clean, organized home that my family can consider a refuge – and I need all the help I can get to do so. I stumbled on these two books a few years ago – and they have been so helpful.
Home Comforts: When I was in college I was babysitting some children and stumbled on a book on their bookshelves called the ‘Brides Book’… it was a very old book – but, it was amazing! It was a wonderful resource for someone looking to keep and organize their home. This book, Home Comforts reminds me of this Brides Book. It covers how to set a table for different occassions… how to fold laundry… how to wash laundry (I could have used this one when I was first married… I turned my hubby’s underwear pink!)… how to buy groceries and how long you can expect them to stay good in your fridge or pantry. It is an incredibly resourceful book and, in my opinion, every home should have a copy! The real kicker – is that the author is a lawyer, mom and wife… she is busy! But, she has learned how to manage her home by looking at the way her mother, grandmother, and great grandmother did.
HouseWorks: I got this book a couple of years ago and it is also a great resource for home organization. It focuses more on de-cluttering and organization and is a very easy read. The author, one of America’s leading housekeeping experts, introduces a system that includes easy-to-remember tips for organizing the home.
What about you? Do you have a favorite resource or book to help you with your regular housekeeping?
