As a Mom of a toddler I am sure you often feel as if you’re running on end and have no place to relax. As mom we need to take care of ourselves or things will start to get more and more stressful. I thought it would be fun to share a few ideas that I use when I need to relax.
First of all, tell yourself it is ok to relax and take a few minutes to you. I think that a lot of times moms find it difficult to allow ourselves to take time for us. We feel that we are supposed to be super woman and take care of everything first. So sit back and tell yourself ‘I can take care of me and take a little bit of time to relax’.
A few things that have helped me is getting up a little early so I can sit back enjoy my coffee and take time to wake up before I am mom. This helps get a fresh start to the day with a clear head. Often times I will sit and listen to a favorite song or two to help put me in a better mood before waking the kids.
Keeping something that relaxes me in my purse or car. I have my headset to my phone so I can listen to a favorite song or a podcast I have not had a chance to listen to while waiting someplace. I also keep a bag in the car with a few magazines, sketch pad and pencils, and good book but nothing related to parenting, business or anything to heavy. Instead it’s a pleasure book that I can get lost in for a few minutes. I just grab something when I am waiting outside the school or someplace waiting for the kids to come out.
I learnt to say ‘No’. This was a tough one actually but it is possible. Saying no helps keep your work load down if it’s a business or a house thing. If you have enough on your plate that day and someone calls to do something for them say no, you may want to word it a little differently rather than just no, maybe I can’t do that right now I am busy or something like that so you don’t hurt feelings. If it is a friend you can always say you have too much on your plate and you need to take care of you. I am sure they will understand.
So I hope this helps you find a little time to relax or at least not add to your plate. Keep in mind something I remind myself often that is ‘If Mom isn’t happy No one is happy’
